Mann Roberts Takes on Howth: A Brilliant Day on the Irish Coast

Sometimes the best way to spend time together as a team is to step away from the office, get outdoors and do something completely different.
That’s exactly what the Mann Roberts team did recently, swapping desks for walking boots and heading across the Irish Sea for a fantastic day in Howth, Ireland.
We arrived at Dublin Airport first thing in the morning before jumping into a taxi and making our way to the beautiful coastal village of Howth.
Situated on the Howth Head peninsula, around 15km north-east of Dublin city, Howth is a bustling fishing village and harbour known for its dramatic coastline, cliff walks and fantastic views. The area is also home to landmarks including Baily Lighthouse, Howth Castle and Ireland’s Eye.

Taking on the Bog of Frogs

With the temperature sitting at around 18°C, conditions couldn’t have been much better for what we had planned.
Our Senior Associate, Alex Mullin, had organised the day and chosen the Bog of Frogs Loop for our walk. And he certainly didn’t let us down.
Despite its unusual name, the Bog of Frogs is one of Howth’s standout walking routes. The full loop is approximately 12.1km, with around 240 metres of ascent, beginning and finishing in Howth Village. Officially graded as a strenuous route, it follows the cliffs before heading inland around the Ben of Howth and eventually returning towards the village.

We completed the walk in around three and a half hours, and the scenery along the way was absolutely spectacular.
The cliff-top sections gave us incredible views across the coastline and Dublin Bay, with the official route offering views towards Baily Lighthouse, Ireland’s Eye and Lambay Island. The combination of cliffs, open hillside and woodland made for a brilliantly varied walk, and there were plenty of opportunities along the way to stop, take in the scenery and enjoy being away from the office for the day.

After three and a half hours of walking, there was only one sensible next stop: a traditional Irish pub.
We headed to The Harbour Bar, where a well-earned drink was most definitely in order.
The Harbour Bar describes itself as the oldest pub on the Howth peninsula, dating back to around 1750. Situated on Church Street, it’s a pub packed with history and character, with a front terrace overlooking Howth Harbour and Ireland’s Eye.
It proved the perfect place to rest some tired legs, have a drink together and reflect on the walk we’d just completed.

Food on the East Pier

Our day wasn’t quite finished.

From The Harbour Bar, we headed to O’Connell’s Pub & Restaurant on Howth’s East Pier for some great food before making our way back to the airport.
After 12km of walking, spectacular coastline and plenty of fresh Irish sea air, sitting down together over some good food was a very welcome way to finish the day.

Then, with tired legs and plenty of great memories, it was back to Dublin Airport for our flight home.

More Than Just a Day Out

Days like this are about much more than getting away from the office.

At Mann Roberts, we believe strong teams are built through shared experiences, conversations and spending time together. Whether we’re tackling a challenge for a client or tackling 12km of the Irish coastline, it’s that sense of being part of a team that matters.
A huge thank you to Alex for organising such a brilliant day and choosing a route that more than lived up to expectations.
Beautiful weather. Spectacular scenery. Great food. Even better company #forwhenitmatters

Howth, you were brilliant.
